COVID UPDATE 4/6/21: COVID-19 recovery rate slips

Pennsylvania's fluctuating rate of recovery from COVID-19 fell slightly Tuesday, as the number of cases and hospitalizations continue to slowly increase.

The state's recovery rate dipped from 91% to 90% while the number of new cases reached 4,255 and the number of people hospitalized reached 2,247, including 427 patients in intensive care, according to the state Department of Health.

The new cases increased the statewide total to 1,049,655 since the beginning of the pandemic. About 26,658 of the cases in the state are among health care workers.

The 14-day average number of people hospitalized per day is about 4,100 lower than it was at the peak in December 2020 and lower than what it was at the height of the spring peak in May 2020. However, the moving average of number of hospitalized patients has started to increase.

The 37 new deaths bring the state total to 25,237 since the pandemic began.

In the county, 22 new cases reported Tuesday increases the total number of cases to 9,904, and two new deaths brings the total to 388 since the pandemic began.

Butler Memorial Hospital on Monday reported 18 coronavirus patients, including five in intensive care.

There are 19,374 partially vaccinated people and 44,948 fully vaccinated people in the county.

Statewide, a total of 5,702,677 doses have been administered, including 3,803,271 first and single doses and 1,899,406 second doses.

In licensed nursing and personal care homes, 69,494 residents and 14,351 employees have COVID-19. Of the deaths in the state, 12,945 have been among nursing and personal care home residents.
