James Small

James “Jim” Edward Small, 68, of Renfrew passed away due to COVID-19 on Monday, March 1, 2021, while under the care of Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born March 23, 1952, in Elgin, Texas, he was the son of the late Jack Small and Ida Mae Cantrell Small.

Jim was a U.S. Army veteran, who proudly served our country during the Vietnam War.For 20 years, he worked as a lieutenant correctional officer for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. For the last 16 years, he worked at Iron Mountain in the computer room.He was a member of the William H. Miller Lodge 769 of Butler, and the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora.Jim enjoyed his coffee and going to the gym for social hour. During the holidays, he loved playing Santa Claus for anyone who would allow him the pleasure.Jim never met a stranger and was loved by all. He will be remembered as the kindest man that anyone could ever meet.Above all, family meant everything to Jim. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 46 years, Deborah Double Small, whom he married on Dec. 24, 1974; his sons, Troy Small and his companion, Lindsey Metkler, of Wexford, Reid Small and his wife, Anna, of Tucson, Ariz., and Travis Small of Renfrew; his grandson, William Small of Tucson, Ariz.; his sisters, Diane Stolle and her husband, Justin, and Fay Voigt and her husband, Joey, both of Thrall, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, who lovingly called him “Grumpy.”In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank and Archie Small; and his sister-in-law, Mary Small.SMALL — As per his wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services for James “Jim” Edward Small, who died Monday, March 1, 2021.Arrangements have been entrusted to Boylan Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Connoquenessing Township, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.Please sign the guest book at www.butlereagle.com.
