Thomas Morton
Thomas Richard Morton, lovingly called, “Poppy,” 73, of Butler, passed away in the care of his family and VNA Hospice on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021.
Born Aug. 20, 1947, in Spring Creek, Tom was the son of the late Richard and Dorothy Morton. He married Beverly A. Armitage on Aug. 10, 2012.
Tom graduated in 1965 from Corry High School where he played basketball, baseball, and ran track. He then graduated from Slippery Rock College with a degree in elementary education. He taught for Moniteau School District at Dassa McKinney Elementary for 35 years. Tom coached, played, and loved all sports, but his favorite was basketball. He coached the Moniteau Warriors for many years and was awarded Butler Eagle Coach of the Year in 1993. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and playing golf.
Tom is survived by his wife, Beve Morton, of Butler; his children, Ryan (Cindy) Morton of Butler, Karen Ramsey of Pittsburgh, Dave (Jen) Hauser of Butler, Darla (Mike) Malley of Butler, Davina (Jeff) Cox of Parker and Dlynn (Bob) Higgins of Butler; his grandchildren, Zach, Lauren (Christian), Ethan, Maddy, Michael, Tommy, Mykenzie, Brynn, Tanner, Ty, and Noah; and his great-grandchildren, Raegan, Grayson, and Leo.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his previous wife, Paula L. Morton, who passed away Aug. 26, 2010.
Morton — A celebration of life service for Thomas Richard Morton, who died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Community Alliance Church, 800 Mercer Road, Butler with the Pastor Keith Kozik, officiating.
