Marie V. Ross
Marie V. Ross, 86, Winter Park, Fla., passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease on Jan. 6, 2021.
Marie, formerly of Butler, was born July 18, 1934, to local grocers, Fred and Josephine (Codispot) Morando.
She attended St. Michael Roman Catholic School, and was a graduate of Butler Senior High School Class of 1952.
Marie married Dan K. Ross of West Virginia on Nov. 24, 1956, and later, the couple owned and operated the Panel and Tile Mart in Butler, for almost 30 years.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Dan, who passed away in 1993; and her only son, Dan K. Jr., who passed away in 2004.
Marie resided with her surviving daughter, Dr. Mary Jo Ross of Winter Park, Fla., an associate professor for Slippery Rock University in Butler County.
The Ross family served actively for decades in the Butler community, and in their family parish, St. (Conrad) Fidelis of Meridian.
Marie was a former member of the St. Conrad Christian Mothers Guild, the Butler County Soroptimist Guild, and the Butler Country Club.
She was employed after the closing of the family lumber business at the Meridian Elementary School cafeteria, and the Moraine Point Giant Eagle bakery.
While in Florida, she was also employed at St. Margaret Mary Catholic School in Winter Park, and served as a church minister of the Eucharist.
Marie enjoyed travel, along with cooking and entertaining her family and friends.
She leaves behind a large extended family of numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, who all loved and admired her.
