SUV slams into pole

The driver of an SUV lost control of her vehicle on Unionville Road near Route 8 and struck a utility pole Sunday afternoon.

CENTER TWP — A woman was taken to a hospital with injuries Sunday afternoon after she lost control of her SUV on Unionville Road near Route 8 and struck a utility pole, state police said.

The woman, believed to be in her 60s, suffered moderate injuries including a cut to her head, according to emergency crews.

Police are investigating the possibility that alcohol was involved in the crash, which occurred about 4:35 p.m.

A portion of the road between Brown Road and Route 8 was closed for about 45 minutes to allow a tow truck to remove the badly damaged vehicle.

The woman was traveling east in a Chevrolet Trailblazer when the vehicle went off the right side of the road, hitting and apparently shearing off a utility pole.

Police said it appeared communication on the pole was knocked down.

The SUV stopped across the westbound lane. The driver's side airbag deployed.

The road was dry and weather conditions were not a factor, police said.

Unionville volunteer firefighters helped the injured driver out of her vehicle.

A Butler Ambulance Service crew tended to her before she was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. Her condition was not available.
