Man charged with running from police
A Clay Township man is facing a hearing in March on charges he ran from state police while wanted on a warrant, following a traffic stop earlier this month in Butler, authorities said.
The suspect, 38-year-old Christopher B. Myers, was eventually caught and allegedly found with suspected drugs stemming from the Feb. 12 incident.
Myers is charged with flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance, all misdemeanors.
Police said the defendant was a passenger in a pickup truck that was pulled over about 1:35 a.m. at Maple Avenue and Spring Street. Myers got out of the truck and ran, police said.
According to charging documents, there was a bench warrant for him before the traffc stop. A trooper subsequently tackled Myers after he allegedly fled.
Police said the suspect was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle. Afterward, another trooper noticed Myers “excessively moving” in the rear seat, documents said.
A search of the defendnat, police said, turned up 16 stamp bags of suspected drugs, Suboxone strips and our unspecified orange pills.
Myers' preliminary hearing is set March 22. Online court records did not indicate if he has an attorney.
