Additional snow, dangerous conditions may be coming

The snow storm that hit the central United States and part of Texas on Tuesday is expected to move into the Butler area Wednesday night into Thursday, bringing several inches of snow.

The weather is expected to move up from the southwest, and on Wednesday night the chances of snow will increase as early Thursday morning approaches, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Snow will continue into Thursday, but at some point freezing rain is expected to hit the area before turning back into snow for the evening. And on Friday, a similar mix is expected before clearing up in the afternoon.

Temperatures will remain below freezing throughout the week, said Jenna Lake, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. The snow will turn into rain for parts of the week because of warmer air hovering several thousand feet above the frozen ground. “It's super dangerous,” Lake said, explaining that the snow will pass through the warm air, turning into rain before hitting the surface and freezing over again.

She noted that scattered showers are expected Friday until at least 2 p.m., and on Saturday the weather is expected to clear, but it will remain freezing.
