Gerald Matus

Gerald J. “Jerry” Matus, 81, of Wampum passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at his residence.

Born June 2, 1939, in New Castle, he was the son of the late John and Alferetta “Freddie” Aloe Matus.

Jerry was the owner and operator of Matus Service Center and Auto Sales in Wampum. He was a well-known race car driver and four-time track champion at Lernerville Speedway. He was a helicopter and airplane pilot, he also instructed and flew ultralights. In Jerry’s free time, he enjoyed going to the casino.

Survivors include two daughters, Sonya (Jim) Mangino and Sherry (Kevin) Genareo, and a son, Brent (Jackie) Matus, all of Wampum; two grandsons, Brandon Matus and Jimmy Mangino; four granddaughters, Elisabeth (John) Garvin, Brittany Sipe, Jessica Mangino and Raelynn Genareo; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Marilynn (Chuck) Johnston of Wampum.

Matus — Visiting hours for Gerald J. “Jerry” Matus, who died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7 p.m. Tuesday January 12, 2021 Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main St., Wampum, with Pastor Gary Arnold officiating.

Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery.

In accordance with CDC guidelines, all visitors are asked to wear a mask and social distance.
