William (Bill) Eugene Whitacre

William (Bill) Eugene Whitacre, 87, of Gettysburg passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2021, in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Jan. 15,1933, in Rural Valley, Pa.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mavourneen (Bennie) Bender Whitacre. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in April 2020.

Bill had two adoring daughters, Brenda Whitacre O'Rourke and her husband, George, of Bloomsburg, Pa., and Shelly Whitacre Palacios and her husband, Fernando, of Montgomery Village, Md.; and four grandchildren, Lindsay O'Rourke, Olivia Palacios, Sophia Palacios and Ian Palacios.

In addition to his late parents, Lula Whitacre and Walter Whitacre, he was preceded in death by his sister, Geneveive Seybert; his brother, Carl Schrecengost; his sister, Martha Patterson; his brother, Robert Whitacre; and his nephew, Gary Seybert.

Bill was a graduate of Butler High School. He attended Pennsylvania State University, and graduated with a B.S. degree in hotel administration.

After graduation, he served in the military for two years. He worked many years as an executive in the hotel industry.

Bill and Bennie owned a framing business for many years in Gaithersburg, Md. They retired to Gettysburg, and built their log home in the woods where they lived for 27 years.

WHITACRE — Friends of William (Bill) Eugene Whitacre, who died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2021, will be received from 11 a.m. until noon Monday at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A blessing service will follow at noon at the funeral home.The burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Commonwealth Hospice of Berwick, 1409 N.
