Hospitals see decrease in number of patients

2 COVID-19 deaths reported

Butler Memorial Hospital saw a 29% decrease over the weekend in its number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19.

According to Monday's report by Butler Health System, the hospital had 22 inpatients with COVID-19, five of whom were being treated in the intensive care unit. The hospital had reported 31 inpatients Friday.

The hospital reported two deaths at Butler Memorial during that time frame.

In the past, hospital officials have said that reductions in COVID-19 inpatients unrelated to recent deaths have been patients either discharged or moved into recovery treatment.

Clarion Hospital has also seen another decrease. On Monday, Clarion reported having three inpatients, a decrease of three from Friday's report.

BHS officials on Monday said they will continue with vaccinations as they receive new doses from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

A review Friday night of the system's online vaccine scheduling software showed no dates available, which means they did not have vaccine on hand.

Residents are encouraged to check back daily to see if dates are available.

Numbers from the state on recent infections was unavailable as of Friday afternoon.

Department officials notified people of this through the update regarding the COVID-19 Early Warning Dashboard.

“The daily COVID-19 data today will be delayed as a result of technical maintenance to the data server on Sunday,” said a department statement. “The website update and daily COVID-19 release from the Department of Health will be delayed past noon today as well.”

However, the department did share its analysis of last week's COVID-19 data, which it does through its weekly report on the early warning dashboard.

According to the dashboard, Butler County saw a percent positivity rate of 7.4% between Jan. 29 and Thursday, which is a 1.4% decrease from the week before.

The county also saw decreases in the number of new confirmed cases, incidence rate and average hospitalizations.
