William R. Parkes

William R. Parkes, 91, of Butler passed away Sunday evening, Jan. 3, 2021, at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Feb. 4, 1929, in Millvale, he was a son of the late John Parkes and Ruth (Lynch) Parkes.

He was a graduate of Butler High School, and had worked as manager of the purchasing department for Heckett Engineering. Following his retirement, he worked for NAPA Auto Parts.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, sang in the men’s choir at St. Paul, and was a piano player, having played in a band with the Chipreans and the Schaffners.

Surviving are his daughters, Gayle (Tom) Riemer of Edgewood, Ky., and Jo Ellen (Bill) Neuman of Port Angeles, Wash.; his grandchildren, Andrew (Amanda) Riemer, Teresa (Lee) Smith, Stephanie (Eric) Neuscamman, Christine (Jeramy) Neusmith, Jackie (Austin) Neugornet and Abbey Parkes; his great-grandchildren, Alice, Evie, Maya, Jordan and Jackson; and two sisters, Sylvia Callender and Nancy Parkes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice (Murphy) Parkes; one son, William M. Parkes; and one grandson, Adam Parkes.

PARKES — Friends of William R. Parkes, who died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
