Ex-Pirate pitcher Jackson dead at 78 from COVID
PITTSBURGH — Former Pittsburgh Pirate left-hander Grant Jackson — the winning pitcher in Game 7 of the 1979 World Series — died Tuesday at Canonsburg Hospital due to COVID-19 complications.
Jackson was an active member of the Pirates’ Alumni Association. He was 29-19 with a 3.23 earned run average in parts of six seasons with the team.
Jackson was 8-5 with a 2.96 ERA in 72 relief appearances with the Pirates in 1979.
