Audrey Gerlach

Audrey Lois (Crux) Gerlach of Cabot passed away on Christmas Day.

Audrey Lois Crux was born July 28, 1934, in Munhall, to William “Fred” and Clara Crux.

She attended Munhall High School, where she competed on the rifle team. A skilled marksman, she contributed to the team’s state and national championship wins in 1950, 1951 and 1952.

She graduated from Grove City College in 1956, with a degree in math and languages, and began teaching high school.

One of her students introduced her to his brother, the handsome Walter Gerlach, whom she married on June 21, 1958. Audrey and Walter made their home in Saxonburg, and began their family.

Audrey loved Saxonburg and was involved in the community. She was president of the Saxonburg Women’s Club, baked numerous goodies for church, school and Girl Scout bake sales, and volunteered for various community functions.

She loved to bake bread and pies to give to her neighbors. For several years, she and Walter took numerous students to Germany in the Knoch High School exchange with a high school in Hann. Münden, Germany. She contributed books and money to the Saxonburg Library for years. Also, she never forgot her alma mater, contributing every year to Grove City College.

She loved her children and adored her grandchildren. She was always willing to make a fort under a dining room table, crawl down a playground tunnel or pretend to be a pirate in her grandchildren’s’ make-believe worlds. And she always had time to read to the kids or tell them a story.

She is survived by her brother, William “Fred” Crux; and her children and grandchildren, Lori (Jeff) Morgan, Abigail Morgan and Kassie Morgan, Ingrid (Mark) Ferrell, Maddie Ferrell and Breece Ferrell, and Walter “Fritz” (Biljana Dopudja) Gerlach, Eric Gerlach and Emily Gerlach.

Audrey was preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter.

GERLACH — There will be no visitation or service at this time for Audrey Lois (Crux) Gerlach, who died Friday, Dec. 25, 2020.

Arrangements were entrusted to Fox Funeral Home, Saxonburg.
