Pregnant woman injured in rollover crash in Jefferson

A one-vehicle crash sent a pregnant woman to the hospital Sunday morning in Jefferson Township after the vehicle rolled over, officials said.

JEFFERSON TWP — A woman several months pregnant was injured Sunday morning in a rollover crash on Bonniebrook Road in the township, authorities said.

The 23-year-old woman from Slippery Rock suffered an apparent minor hand injury in the 7:15 a.m. wreck blamed on slippery roads. A passer-by helped get her out of her sport utility vehicle.

She was taken by Saxonburg Ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital. Her condition was not known. State police are investigating but an accident report was not immediately available.

The woman was traveling south on Bonniebrook Road toward Route 356 when her GMC Terrain slid on the snow-covered road, hitting and shearing off a utility pole, police said. The vehicle ended on its driver's side in the southbound lane.

Saxonburg volunteer firefighters had to close a portion of the road.

The woman, who was wearing a seat belt, apparently used a drill or some other tool to break the windshield in an effort to get out of the vehicle, emergency crews said.

Neighbors said a Good Samaritan came by and assisted her in getting out the back of the SUV.

Crews said the vehicle's airbags deployed. The SUV was later towed.
