Wayne Scott Avery

Wayne Scott Avery a native of Butler and a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2020. After a courageous battle with cancer, he passed away at his home surrounded by his family at the age 81.

He retired from the medical imaging industry after 39 years of service.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as an X-ray technician.In his younger years, he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing with his brother and father.He was a 1957 graduate of Butler Senior High School.As he got older, he enjoyed traveling and fine dining, and he treasured time spent with his family.He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Van Lieu and her husband, Lynwood Alberes, Deena Clark and her husband, Larry Clark, all of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, Jennifer Van Lieu (Christopher Louis) of Round Rock, Texas, Patricia Van Lieu (Benjamin Autin) of Gonzales, La., Sara Perkins of Baton Rouge, and Caroline Frazier (Tanner Frazier) of Baton Rouge; and three great-grandchildren, Cory Kuhn, Olivia Perkins and Levi Perkins.He is also survived by his stepson, Brent Schechter of Dallas, Texas; his sisters, Mary Alice Avery of Butler, Ardyth D. Wygant of Prospect; and his brother, Dr. Robert K. Avery of Salt Lake City, Utah.He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Scott Avery and Alice MacGregor Avery; his first wife of 37 years, Carole Hutzley Avery; his second wife of 17 years, Sandra Faye Coleman Avery; and his son-in-law, Bernard “Dutch” Van Lieu.His family would like to thank the staff and his caregivers of Cardinal Hospice.AVERY — Arrangements for Wayne Scott Avery, who died Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, were handled by Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, Baton Rouge, La.Private graveside services were held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
