Earl C. Schriver Jr.

Earl C. Schriver Jr., 89, of Mars, formerly of Economy Borough, Beaver County, passed away at St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars, after a four-year battle with cancer. He passed away Dec. 16, 2020, one week before his 90th birthday.

Earl was known throughout Western Pennsylvania and the outdoor sportsman community as “The Birdman of Baden.” A lifelong licensed falconer, avid outdoorsman and nature lover, Earl became fascinated with birds of prey as a young teenager and spent many decades training other falconers, exhibiting his live birds at festivals, schools, camps and nature centers, and educating thousands on the beauty, majesty and reality of hawks, owls, falcons and eagles.

Born Dec. 23, 1930, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Earl C. and Elizabeth Shotten Schriver.

Earl retired from LTV Steel in Aliquippa, in 1985, after 27 years.

He had served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.A former member of Concord United Presbyterian Church, he was an avid gardener, bird watcher, and lifelong learner. He was a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for many years. Before he became ill, he passionately worked to help reintroduce his beloved native Paw Paw trees into the Western Pennsylvania woods.Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Eleanor P. Schriver; his brother, James Schriver (Colliene); three daughters, Pamela Townsend (Ron) of Philadelphia, Susan Kline (Robert) of Delmont, Pa., and Sharon Mazzaro (Russ) of Cleveland, Ohio; two sons, Allen Schriver (Elizabeth) of Stuart, Fla., and Eric Schriver (Gail) of Cleveland, Ohio; and 14 grandchildren, of whom he was most proud, Michael, Jonathan, Christina, Katherine, Andrew, Audrey, Zachary, Stephen, Joshua, Jessica, Daniel, Kelsey, Rachel and Megan.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia McCredy Schriver, who died in 1954; two sons, Mark S. and Paul D. Schriver; and his son-in-law, Joseph Polak.SCHRIVER — Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, no public visitation or service can be held at this time for Earl C.
