Family Video company closing stores

Family Video on Cunningham Street in Butler is closing as part of a company-wide shutdown.

Family Video is closing all 800 of its stores, including the one in Butler.

Highland Ventures LLC, Family Video’s parent company, has announced that all Family Video stores, including the one at 544 W. Cunningham St., are closing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The impact of COVID-19, not only in foot traffic, but also in the lack of movie releases, pushed us to the end of an era,” the company said in a statement. The first Family Video store opened 42 years ago.

Jan. 6 was the last day to rent movies, and the stores will close when all merchandise is sold, the company said. Everything in the stores is for sale, including DVDs, Blu-rays, snacks, and shelves. All closing stores will operate seven days a week from noon to 8 p.m. The website will remain open and online orders are being processed, the company said.
