Jane S. Gilchrist

Jane S. Gilchrist

Jane S. Gilchrist was born on May 5, 1927, in Carlisle, Pa., and passed away on Dec. 6, 2020.

Jane graduated from Carlisle High School in 1945, and Grove City College in 1949.

While at Grove City, she met the love of her life, Chester R. Gilchrist, and they shared 27 blissful years together before his passing in 1976.

Jane was a member of St. Peter’s Reformed Church, and volunteered at the food cupboard, Zelienople Library and Meals on Wheels. To the end, Jane was active, engaging, well-read, enjoyed crossword puzzles, an afternoon of bridge, and possessed a keen sense of humor.

One of Jane’s many attributes was prioritizing the comfort and joy of others, even up through her final moments. She embraced everyone she came across, and put them at ease through her welcoming warmth and engaging conversation. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom strive to exhibit the selflessness and generosity that she lived by.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory four children, Scott (Bridget) Gilchrist of Black Mountain, N.C., Todd Gilchrist of Zelienople, Joan (Dan) Banyay of Cranberry Township, and Ann McMullen of Butler; two grandchildren, Gregory (Jennifer) Banyay of Ellwood City, and Laurie (Brian) Cowin of Fombell; five great-grandsons; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her passing leaves a significant void in the lives of many. May she rest in eternal peace.
