A fast-moving house fire on Thursday at noon claimed the life of a toddler.

Tristan Oesterling, 2, was unable to escape the flames at his family's Knox Avenue home in Butler.

His father, Donovan Oesterling, made repeated attempts to re-enter the home to find his son, but smoke and flames made it impossible, said Butler Joint Fire Lieutenant Donald Crawford.

Oesterling was able to get his son Jax, 1, out of the home. The baby suffered a burn on his back and was flown from Butler Memorial Hospital to UPMC Mercy Burn Center in Pittsburgh.

Oesterling and his daughter, Jasmine, 4, were treated and released from Butler Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Jasmine and Jax were outside of the fully involved home when firefighters reached the scene three minutes after being dispatched.

The children's mother, Deidra Anthony, was at work at the time of the fire.

Deputy Coroner Larry Barr said an autopsy was performed on Tristan Thursday night, but the cause of death is pending.

Family friend Cindy Parker, who operates the nonprofit Walk in Faith Outreach, is collecting clothing and housewares for the family, which is staying with Oesterling's parents. The elder Oesterlings own the home on Knox Avenue.

Parker said those who can donate clothing, housewares, linens or gift cards can call her at 724-968-2018.

A gofundme.com account was also set up for the family on Thursday.
