Fla. man charged with drug possession

Investigation started with alleged robbery

A Florida man is accused of felony and misdemeanor drug possession stemming from an investigation into an alleged robbery last year at an apartment complex in Slippery Rock Township.

State police on Wednesday charged Christopher Dexter, 24, of Ponte Vedra, with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges come 15 months after police got a call for a reported robbery at the University Village at Slippery Rock about 6 a.m. on Sept. 17, 2019.

During that investigation, police identified the alleged victim, then a Grove City teenager, who had been injured in the incident. He was taken to Grove City Medical Center before reportedly being transferred to a Pittsburgh hospital for medical treatment.

Police later arrested three Slippery Rock Township men — Aaron T. Foote, 21; Dustin J. McFadden, 19; and Gregory W. McFadden, 20 — in the suspected robbery. The McFaddens are brothers.

The victim, who is 20, told investigators that he had gone to the apartment complex with the three suspects to buy marijuana from one of their buddies known as “Dex” or “Dax,” police said.

University Village at Slippery Rock is an off-campus apartment complex that is not affiliated with Slippery Rock University.

The victim recounted that he, Foote and the McFaddens drove to the complex, police said. The victim said that, once there, he, Foote and Dustin McFadden went to an apartment where Dexter was living. Gregory McFadden remained in the car.

But after no one answered the apartment door, the victim said, Foote and Dustin McFadden assaulted him, according to investigators.

The victim told police that he managed to get away and run up the stairs of one of the apartment buildings. Foote and the younger McFadden allegedly followed after him with crowbars.

He said he jumped out a third-story window in an attempt to flee. But afterward, according to the victim's account, Foote and Dustin McFadden “came back down and took $140 from him,” police said.

Later that day, investigators got a search warrant for Dexter's apartment. Police said Dexter was an SRU student at the time.

Among the items found during the search, according to charging documents, were six plastic bags containing suspected marijuana, two marijuana grinders, several smoking devices, two packs of rolling papers and $910 in currency.

Dexter, who was home at the time of the search, allegedly admitted that the items were his. He also related he had been “selling marijuana,” documents indicated.

Police on Monday said Dexter has been “cooperative” during their investigation, and they expect him to turn himself in for arraignment on charges at a still to be determined date. Online court records did not indicate if he has an attorney.

The cases against Foote and the McFadden brothers, meanwhile, are pending in Butler County court.

Those defendants are all charged with aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, theft, simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment. They are all free on bail.
