5 UPMC frontline workers among the first to receive COVID-19 vaccine in Pittsburgh region
On Monday, five frontline workers at UPMC were among the first people to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine was given emergency approval Friday and is the first vaccine to be approved and distributed in the United States.
The first doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Pittsburgh Monday morning.
Five frontline workers at UPMC received the vaccine during an 11 a.m. live stream news conference.
The workers will receive a second dose in 21 days.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine received emergency approval from the Food and Drug Administration on Friday.
