Chiefs rally past Denver

KANSAS CITY — After settling for field goals on four previous trips to the red zone, Patrick Mahomes connected with tight end Travis Kelce for a 20-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter Sunday night.

The score put the Kansas City Chiefs in front with 1:06 left in the period and paved the way to a 22-16 victory over the stubborn Denver Broncos.

Harrison Butker connected on field goals of 35, 24, 23, 31 and 48 yards yards for the Chiefs (11-1), the latter with 59 seconds left in the game. Mahomes threw for 318 yards.

Drew Lock threw touchdown passes of five and 10 yards to Tim Patrick for the Broncos (4-8). Melvin Gordon had 15 carries for 131 yards.
