Man arrested on felony count of strangulation

Butler police arrested a man on charges he choked his girlfriend Monday evening during a domestic dispute at their East Wayne Street apartment.

Bryan M. Webb, 36, is charged with a felony count of strangulation and a misdemeanor count of simple assault. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $1,500 bond following arraignment.

The victim told police that shortly before 7:25 p.m., Webb choked her with both hands around her neck and throat, according to charging documents. She recounted that she was “having difficulty breathing” during the alleged assault.

Police noted that she had minor redness on her neck.

Webb denied assaulting the victim, police said. He initially told police that he was “trying to hug her,” documents said, and then stated he wanted to have sex with her and that she “likes to be choked.”

His preliminary hearing was not immediately scheduled.
