Mail-in voters urged to take ballots to office

Gov. Tom Wolf and Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar are urging voters who have filled out or are waiting for mail-in ballots to hand-carry them to their county bureau of elections.

Wolf issued a news release on Monday and Tuesday encouraging mail-in voters to deliver their ballots before Election Day to ensure their vote is counted.

Mail-in voters should seal their ballot inside the white secrecy envelope that indicates “official ballot,” which should not be marked in any way by the voter.

That envelope then goes into the preaddressed outer return envelope, which the voter must sign and complete the declaration.

Voters with mail-in ballots can vote at their regular polling place, but must bring their completed mail-in ballot, properly secured in both envelopes, and surrender it to the judge of elections at the poll.

They will then sign a document confirming they have surrendered their mail-in ballot and will be permitted to vote at the poll as usual.

Voters who have applied for a mail-in ballot but do not return it or no longer have the mail ballot and envelopes can vote at their precinct using a provisional ballot, which will be provided by poll workers.

More information on voting and elections is available at the Pennsylvania Department of State’s hotline at 1-877-868-3772.
