Bridge work will temporarily close Freedom Road, others

Per PennDOT, traffic will be affected next Friday and Saturday to allow the new Freedom Road bridge to be installed.

Bridge modules will be moved from Thompson Park to the Freedom Road Bridge site Oct. 30 through Nov. 1.

Two closures of Freedom Road are scheduled to occur from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Oct. 30 and Oct. 31. Both closures will be implemented to erect bridge modules as well as complete other contract work.

Transportation of bridge modules to the project site using 15-minute rolling closures of Executive Drive and Thomson Park Drive will occur Oct. 30 and Oct. 31.

Rolling closures are scheduled to occur eastbound on the Pennsylvania Turnpike from 11:55 p.m. Oct. 30 until 5 a.m. Oct. 31 and westbound from 11:55 p.m. Oct. 31 until 4 a.m. Nov. 1.

In the event of inclement weather, the work will take place from Nov. 6 to 8.

The detour eastbound on Freedom Road will have motorists turn right onto Commonwealth Drive to Thornhill Road, then go northbound on Route 19 to Freedom Road.

Motorists westbound on Freedom Road will turn right onto Executive Drive, turn right onto Cranberry Square Drive, then go southbound onto Route 19 to Thornhill Road to Commonwealth Drive, back to Freedom Road.

Delays are anticipated, and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes. The township will provide police assistance during these closures.

The overall project aims to replace the existing bridge over Interstate 76 with a two-span, six-lane bridge. The bridge will also have sidewalks.
