Seneca Valley adds 2 cases of COVID for total of 4
Two more individuals in Seneca Valley School District have tested positive for COVID-19.
According to two letters sent out by the district this week, one support teacher at Connoquenessing Valley Elementary School and one freshman student at the Intermediate High School were diagnosed with the illness caused by the novel coronavirus.
Both were asymptomatic when they tested positive, the letters said.
The Connoquenessing support teacher was tested due to a family member testing positive over the weekend. Their last day in the building was Oct. 16, and the district estimates they interacted with fewer than 12 students. At all times, one letter states, the teacher and students were wearing personal protective equipment and plexiglass was present in classrooms.
The freshman student was last in the building Tuesday, and the district did not say in its Wednesday letter when the student tested positive. The letter continues that Seneca Valley will make contact with all exposed students via written notice, asking some to quarantine until the state Department of Health makes its own contacts.
At both facilities, school has continued as planned, and the district states it conducts daily deep cleanings at all schools.
These mark the third and fourth known COVID-19 cases within the district, and the second and third since the district returned to full-time in-person instruction on Oct. 5.
