Woman sought in car theft case

State police are seeking a woman they said stole her grandmother's car Sunday in Oakland Township, and then apparently abandoned it in Butler.

Kelsee A. Thompson, 30, of Oakland Township is charged with felony counts of theft and receiving stolen property, and a misdemeanor count of unauthorized use of a vehicle, in an arrest warrant police obtained Monday.

She also is charged with three traffic violations, two of which are driving with a suspended license and driving without a license.

The owner of the 2015 Chrysler 300 reported the vehicle stolen Sunday morning from her home. Police said Thompson, who also lives there, had taken the car keys and driven from the home.

The victim told investigators that the defendant did not have her permission to take the car, valued at $15,000.

Trooper Dustin Scheerbaum was able to contact Thompson by telephone, and he urged her to return the car. But she allegedly was not interested in bringing it back.

She told Scheerbaum, documents said, that she “did not want to see any cops and that she was not bringing the car back any time soon until (the trooper) was long gone.”

Police Cpl. Jacob Jesse said he was looking for the stolen car around 6 p.m. Sunday when he found it at an auto parts store in Butler.

It was unoccupied, Jesse said Monday, and “all locked up.” The vehicle was undamaged.
