Man arrested for DUI after crash

Trevor Schreffler
Accused of taking grandpa's truck

A Muddy Creek Township man allegedly stole a relative's pickup truck and later crashed it Saturday in a suspected drugged driving wreck in Prospect.

State police arrested the suspect, 31-year-old Trevor S. Schreffler, after they found him walking away from the scene of the crash about 2:40 p.m. on Route 488.

District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Schreffler on a felony charge of theft and a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence. He also was cited for hit-and-run and two other traffic violations.

Additionally, Haggerty arraigned the suspect separately on a charge of being an out-of-state fugitive from justice. He is wanted on a warrant by the Florida Commission on Parole, police said.

He is in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bond.

Schreffler's grandfather reported to police Saturday that the defendant took his 2016 Ram 1500 truck without his permission, according to charging documents.

Police said the defendant was driving the pickup east on Route 488 at Route 528 when he struck a traffic sign. He allegedly fled the wreck.

A trooper encountered Schreffler walking on Prospect Road “away from the scene of the crash,” police said. He also made a statement, documents said, admitting to being under the influence while driving the truck.

He was subsequently taken to the hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results were not available.
