Suspected heroin, $14,000 seized in Butler Twp. raid

Homeowner jailed on drug charges

About 11,000 stamp bags of suspected heroin along with suspected methamphetamine, pills and approximately $14,000 in currency were seized from a home last week in Butler Township, state police said.

Homeowner Tammy L. Macefe, 51, remains in the Butler County Prison on $250,000 bond stemming from the Sept. 30 raid on Harrison Avenue. She is facing felony drug possession and other charges.

A vice unit investigation, during which police allegedly conducted multiple controlled drug buys, led to a search warrant that officers executed around 6:40 p.m. at the home that is the last one on a dead-end road.

Troopers with the patrol and crime units assisted in executing the warrant. Police said they found Macefe on the porch.

The search, investigators said, turned up about 220 bricks of suspected heroin. A “brick” is a common street term for a group of 50 glassine bags containing opiates, such as heroin.

The street value of the suspected heroin is estimated at around $66,000. The seized bags had different names on them.

Additionally, police said, officers found six grams of what appeared to be methamphetamine, 160 pills of amphetamine/dextroamphetamine, a digital scale, drug-packaging materials, a money counter and the currency.

She refused to answer police questions, investigators said.

Macefe purchased the home, where police said she lives alone, in August 2001, according to Butler County Assessment Office records.

District Judge William Fullerton arraigned her on three felony charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and three misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance.

She also is charged with seven misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. Thursday. Online court records did not indicate if Macefe has an attorney.
