Identities of those involved in crash released by police
BUTLER TWP — Butler Township police have released the names of the drivers — one a 22-year-old pregnant woman — involved in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday at a traffic way at the Butler Crossing shopping plaza.
Tara Strobel of Butler Township, who is five-and-a-half months pregnant, was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital following the wreck around 11:25 a.m., police said.
Her condition was unavailable Thursday, but police at the scene reported that her injuries were not believed to be serious.
The collision occurred, according to a police report Thursday, when the other driver, Margaret Calvert, 53, of Butler, failed to yield the right of way while entering an intersection.
Calvert's northbound Ford Escape struck the driver's side of Strobel's Mercury Sable that was traveling west.
A Butler Ambulance Service crew tended to Strobel before she was flown by STAT MedEvac to the hospital.
Police said Calvert and her husband, Barry Calvert, 58, of Butler, a passenger in the sport utility vehicle, went by private vehicle to Butler Memorial Hospital to be checked out for possible injury.
Both vehicles had to be towed. The Butler Township Volunteer Fire District and the VA Butler Healthcare Fire Department assisted at the scene.
