Police identify body found in river
Authorities have identified a man whose body was found Sunday afternoon in the Allegheny River in Kittanning.
The body of Clifton H. McHenry, 67, of Kittanning and formerly of New Kensington, was discovered by Kittanning police around 3 p.m. in the river, about 200 yards north of the Allegheny Mariner restaurant.
An autopsy was conducted Monday, but a cause and manner of death are pending, Armstrong County Coroner Brian Myers said Tuesday. Results of standard toxicology tests also are pending.
Myers said family members were identified and notified Tuesday afternoon.
“We're still gathering information and no other details are being released at this time,” he said.
The Armstrong County District Attorney's office and Kittanning police also are investigating. District Attorney Katie Charlton and the investigating police officer could not immediately be reached for comment.
