SRU/Edinboro alliance collapses
Slippery Rock University will no longer enter an affiliation with Edinboro University.
According to a Clarion University news release Monday, Edinboro will instead affiliate with two other schools — California University of Pennsylvania and Clarion University.
Robb King, associate executive director of communication and public affairs for SRU, released a statement Monday on the university's behalf.
“SRU respects the decision made by the state system and all parties concerned regarding the integration between EU, Cal U and Clarion, and will do everything we can to assist our partner institutions in any way we are able,” the statement said.
The three-school affiliation will involve similar sharing of services as had been forecast for the SRU and Edinboro union, which was announced in July.
“In addition to supporting our traditional and legacy face-to-face residential programs, we'll work collaboratively to create an online program that is truly unique,” said Clarion University President Dale-Eizabeth Pehrsson in the release.
According to Pennsylvania State System officials, the early results of a financial review requested in July showed greater potential for the betterment of all schools involved. The affiliation has also been said to maintain local identity, branding and tradition.
“This combination will be a good fit for all three universities,” said Edinboro University President Guiyou Huang. “We're excited about the possibilities presented by this partnership and what we might achieve together.”
Cal U President Geraldine Jones released a statement in regard to the possible future affiliation.
“A partnership among California, Clarion and Edinboro has the potential to create a powerhouse,” she said.
