$25M marked for road projects
An ambitious infrastructure project in the county’s southern tier is the target of a $25 million federal grant.
The Department of Transportation announced Thursday that it would invest $25 million into various projects along Route 228 that mesh with a large number of local projects on the same road to improve the state route and turn it into an economic corridor.
Improvements intended to be funded by the DOT grant include road-widening, the addition of turning lanes, conversions to roundabout or jughandle intersections and improvements to pedestrian and “multiuse” paths. Money will also go toward improved pavement markings and traffic signals.
County projects include work from Lovi Road to Powell Road and Powell Road to Haine School Road as well as at the intersection with Three Degree Road. That is in addition to projects such as the MSA Thruway and Balls Bend realignment work.
The funds come from the federal Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development, or BUILD, grant. Butler County previously received a $20 million BUILD grant in late 2018 to perform different work along the major state highway, that time to widen the road in Middlesex Township.
