State police and multiple fire departments responded Wednesday night to a crash on Interstate 79 near mile-marker 95.

State police said when emergency crews arrived shortly after the call at 8:19 p.m., they found a sedan with heavy front-end damage in the grassy median between the north and south lanes.

The driver was hanging out of the vehicle, and a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle.

Police said both people were conscious and alert, but both needed medical attention.

Firefighters halted traffic completely on the southbound lane near the crash, so a medical helicopter could land to pick up the woman. The man was driven to a hospital in an ambulance.

State police said they did not know the details of the injuries, but they could be serious.

Police said they are investigating whether speed or intoxication were factors in the crash.

After blocking traffic for the helicopter, firefighters opened travel to one lane, which continued through 10 p.m., until police could survey the scene and to allow for a tow truck to arrive.
