Tractor fire burns hole in carport
No one was injured Saturday afternoon when a farm tractor caught fire in a carport at a home in Concord Township.
Authorities said the call came in to the county’s 911 center just before 4:30 p.m. at the home on Gilbert Road. West Sunbury firefighters found the tractor on fire on arrival.
A resident said the fire broke out when she started the older model tractor after apparently overfilling the fuel tank, said Dan Bunyan, chief of the West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department. She was using the tractor to cut the grass.
The fire melted a “big hole” in the roof of the canvass carport, Bunyan said. Fire crews used about 150 gallons of water during the call.
The fire gutted the tractor’s engine compartment.
