COVID-19 Update 9/9: Butler County adds 2 deaths, 23 confirmed cases

Butler County added two deaths and 23 new confirmed cases Wednesday, according to state data.

According to Wednesday's report by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Butler County's death toll rose to 21. The county has had 823 residents test positive for COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Butler Health System also reported treating five inpatients at Butler Memorial Hospital, all of whom have confirmed cases of the virus with one of those patients in the intensive care unit.

As of Tuesday, Butler County was still listed under the “moderate” risk level for community infection, which dictates the recommendation for school formats. According to the Department of Health's Early Warning Monitoring System Dashboard, the county had a percent positivity of 3.9 percent between Aug. 28 and Sept. 3.

The dashboard also noted the county added 31 more confirmed cases than the previous week.

Butler County is not alone in its recent resurgence of the virus.

“Our percent positivity increased significantly this week, a sign that this virus is still affecting Pennsylvanians,” said Gov. Tom Wolf in a news release Tuesday. “We must continue to focus on taking actions to protect ourselves and others,” he said.

The following numbers on the coronavirus pandemic were compiled from regular news releases from the state Department of Health and the Butler Health System.
