Butler County saw a spike of 32 COVID-19 cases Friday, the largest one-day count since July 20, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health website.

The rise can be contributed in part to the surge in coronavirus cases at Slippery Rock University.

According to the SRU website, the university has seen 42 cases since Aug. 20 and 31 since Aug. 31.

The numbers dropped to three cases Saturday and nine Sunday, according to the department of health.

Butler County now has seen 799 confirmed cases with 80 probable cases since Jan. 1.

The county's death toll remained at 19.

The state's COVID numbers were up to date as of noon Monday.

Statewide, 1,211 cases were reported Saturday and Sunday, bringing the total since the pandemic began to 135,862.

There have been 1.6 million negative tests in the commonwealth and 7,780 deaths.

Surrounding counties have continued to see a decline in cases.

Allegheny County saw 104 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend and marked a fourth consecutive day of improved numbers.

Armstrong County reported no new cases on Saturday, but added three on Sunday.

Nationally, cases rose to 6.2 million over the weekend, an increase of nearly 80,000, according to the CDC.

The death toll climbed to 188,513.
