Thrice as nice

Center Twp's Wimer, 77, sinks hers 3rd hole-in-one on Stoughton's No.5

CENTER TWP — Talk about mastering a hole.

Lynda Wimer, 77, of Center Township is more than familiar with the No. 5, 130-yard hole at Stoughton Acres.

She's dropped her tee shot into the cup on that hole three times.

“It's mostly luck ... But it takes some skill, too,” Wimer said.

A member of the Lady Duffers league — which plays each Monday at Stoughton Acres — Wimer has aced the No. 5 hole during league play twice. The most recent was Aug. 24, using a 5-wood.

She also scored a hole-in-one on No. 5 with a 5-wood in 2017 and with a 7-wood in 2004.

“I was younger then,” Wimer said of the 2004 ace. “I didn't need as strong a club.”

She actually has four aces in her golf career. The first occurred in 1998, using a 5-wood on the No. 11, 140-yard hole on the Krendale West course.

Wimer has been a member of the Lady Duffers league for approximately 40 years.

“She plays pretty consistently,” fellow league member Karen Perry said. “To get a hole-in-one on the same hole three times is pretty amazing.

“Lynda enjoys golf. I know she plays with a couple of ladies when she gets the chance, outside of league play.”

To get a hole-in-one at all is an experience not achieved by many.

“My father and brother were scratch golfers and neither one of them ever got one,” Wimer said. “My brother was happy for me when I got my first one.”

She has been playing golf for nearly 50 years.

“I shoot around a 51 for nine holes now,” Wimer said. “I don't play very much anymore, once a week in this league, then I try to get back out with a friend another day and practice a little bit.

“The only way to golf well is to get out there and play. I used to play every day. Now I'm old and tired ... I just want to watch TV and vegetate.”

But she can still come up with a memorable shot every now and again.

“The thing is, with that No. 5 hole, you can't see the green very well from where you tee off,” Wimer said. “When we came up on the green and didn't see the ball, I told the other ladies not to bother looking in the hole.

“I mean, it had to be off the green somewhere. No way was I getting a third hole-in-one on that hole. Yet, there it was.”

It was the second time she aced that hole in her 70's.

“It's a pretty neat thing,” Perry said.
