A boil water advisory that started Saturday has been extended through Tuesday for about 900 Pennsylvania American Water customers in parts of the City of Butler and Butler and Center townships.

Heather DuBose, external affairs specialist for Pennsylvania American Water, said there was a loss of water pressure Saturday at a water storage tank in the city following a 12-inch water main break along Delwood Road in Butler.

The precautionary boil water advisory issued for customers has been extended Monday for 48 hours and the company advises customers to continue to boil any water for one minute they intend to drink or use for cooking.

The water is acceptable for bathing, washing, and other common uses.

Bottled water and a water tanker are available at Pennsylvania American Water’s Butler Water Treatment Plant, 203 Oneida Valley Rd., from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Water will be available while the precautionary boil water advisory is in effect. Customers planning to use the tanker are asked to bring their own containers.
