A security camera provided Butler police evidence on who made a mess at the city's public safety building Thursday, authorities said.

The suspect, Mark A. Graham, 57, of Butler, was allegedly caught on surveillance video defecating on the side of the building that houses the police department.

Only moments earlier, police said, he had been released from their custody stemming from a prior incident for public intoxication.

District Judge Bill O'Donnell arraigned Graham on a felony charge of institutional vandalism and a summary charge of disorderly conduct. He is being held in the Butler County Prison on $2,500 bond.

Police said their findings in the investigation included feces on the building and the ground along with used toilet paper. They noted that the waste posed a “bio hazard concern” because it was close to a public sidewalk.

The whole incident, police noted, was captured on security camera after Graham was released from police custody about 3:20 a.m. Thursday.

“Upon being released, Graham exited the building and walked to the West New Castle Street side of the public safety building,” according to charging documents. “Graham then defecated on the side of the building.”

Court records showed that police cited the defendant for public drunkenness in connection with an incident Wednesday.

That was sixth time since April that police have cited him for the same summary offense. He was previously accused of public drunkenness on April 23 and 25, and June 4, 28 and 30.
