Police identify man who died in Wednesday traffic accident
A head-on crash on Route 8 at the intersection of Sandy Hill and Cunningham roads Wednesdaymorning left one person dead and resulted in a road closure for several hours. Emergency crews from Allegheny County and Middlesex Police Department responded to the scene.
The Northern Regional Police Department identified the man who died Wednesday in a head-on collision on Route 8 in Richland Township as Michael Petro, 38, of Pittsburgh.
Petro was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at the intersection of Sandy Hill and Cunningham roads at 9:30 a.m.
Reports from other motorists and images from traffic cameras revealed that Petro was driving erratically before the crash, said Police Chief John Sicilia.
A Penn Waste roll-off truck had just pulled away from a traffic light in the southbound lane when it was struck by Petro’s vehicle, Sicilia said. Petro was traveling north.
