FRANKLIN TWP — A motorcyclist was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital with an apparent broken leg after his Harley-Davidson bike collided with a sport utility vehicle Sunday afternoon on Route 422 at Unionville Road in Franklin Township.

The wreck shortly before 4:45 p.m. slowed traffic in both directions, and at one point the highway was closed to allow the helicopter to land.

Police said the collision happened when a Suzuki Vitara driven by Richard Rottman, 76, of Butler Township turned left from Unionville Road onto Route 422, and into the path of Aaron Hayes' motorcycle, which was traveling west on Route 422.
