Doris Jean (Bodesheim) Thorne

Doris Jean (Bodesheim) Thorne

Doris Jean (Bodesheim) Thorne, 84, of Cabot, passed away on June 10, 2020, at Good Samaritan Hospice.

She was the daughter of Charles and Evelyn Bodesheim of Butler.

She graduated from Butler High School and embarked on a career with Nationwide Insurance Co. After meeting her future husband, James Thorne, she changed her career to be a wife and mother.

A dedicated life partner to her husband, Jim, she edited his dissertation for the University of Pittsburgh and provided classroom assistance to him throughout his educational career.

She was active in every church they joined. Jim's work took them to live in many different communities, and she will be remembered for her knowledge of the Scriptures and work as a teacher in women's ministry wherever she went.

For several years, she was a spiritual “Mom” to many of the local young people of Grove City and students from Grove City College through her partnership with Jim in the “Homestead” fellowship-a-Christian outreach home ministry.

Doris lived out her strong Christian faith each day of her life, and she impacted many of the lives of those around her. She will be fondly remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, but also as a great mentor, neighbor, spiritual leader and friend, who helped to make this world a better place.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Suann (Ray) Martell; her son, Dr. James (Mary) Thorne; her grandchildren, Jeanette (Justin) Lovern and Daniel (Kellie) Martell; her great-grandson, Holland Lovern; a brother, Charles (Linda) Bodesheim; a sister, MaryAnn (James) Paserba; and a number of nieces and nephews.
