Motorcyclist hurt in accident
A man was seriously injured Tuesday night when he apparently lost control of his motorcycle and crashed in northern Butler County.
A medical helicopter flew the cyclist, believed to be in his 50s, to a Pittsburgh hospital.
Emergency crews said it appeared he suffered a severe right leg injury. His condition was not known Wednesday.
State police investigated the wreck on the 3000 block of Route 38 in Venango Township around 10:30 p.m., but an accident report was not immediately available.
Dale Sellers, chief of the Eau Claire Volunteer Fire Department, said a passing motorist came upon the crash and called 911. Crews said they found the man on the road. About 25 feet away was his wrecked motorcycle that was underneath a guardrail.
The man, who was wearing a helmet, was “in and out” of consciousness, Sellers said, as he was being tended to by rescuers, including an Emlenton Ambulance crew.
He was taken by ambulance to the North Washington rodeo grounds, where the helicopter landed before flying him to Allegheny General Hospital.
The crash closed Route 38 between Hughes and Slater roads for about one hour.
The road conditions that night were dry, Sellers said.
