County sees slight increase in COVID-19 cases on first day in the yellow phase

As Butler County sees its first day removed from Gov. Tom Wolf's pandemic orders, its numbers remain solid.

Butler County was one of 13 counties that moved into the yellow phase of Wolf's plans to reopen, including neighboring Allegheny and Armstrong counties.

According to the state Department of Health's daily report, Butler County added three cases to its total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, pushing the county to just past the 200 mark. However, the county's death toll remained at six, which has stood since April 21.

While state tabulations remain steady, Butler Health System saw an increase in patients needing hospitalization at Butler Memorial Hospital due to COVID-19. However, that data is not broken down into what counties patients call home.

BHS reported Friday that eight patients were seeking care for COVID-19 at BMH, one of whom is in the Intensive Care Unit. Of the eight patients, four have confirmed cases of the virus and four are suspected of having it.

Those numbers of up from the ones BHS reported Wednesday, when the regional health care system reported having just two inpatients, one patient with a confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the other suspected of having the virus. Neither patient was in the ICU at that time.

Spokeswoman Jana Panther said the hospital's levels of personal protective equipment and testing supplies continue to be adequate for “current and planned patient volume.”

The following numbers about the coronavirus pandemic are compiled daily from the Pennsylvania Department of Health's website and regular releases from Butler Health System.
