Cranberry plans virtual Memorial Day

Cranberry Township's Memorial Day service is traditionally held publicly near memorial markers. This year's event will be conducted virtually via several online platforms.

Cranberry Township residents and veterans gather the Sunday before Memorial Day every year to honor the sacrifice made by those who served their country.

Though this year’s event can’t take place as usual, the township is planning a virtual service to ensure the tradition continues. An online Memorial Day service is planned for 1 p.m. May 24.

A video service will be posted on the township’s social media feeds and website.

The recording will feature the keystone elements of the annual event, including the national anthem, guest speakers, the release of doves, a 21-gun salute and the ringing of bells in honor of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

As a joint production of Cranberry Township VFW Post 879 and the township’s parks and recreation and communication departments, the video serves to make sure those who defend American freedom are remembered and honored no matter the setting.

To view the video, visit cranberrytownship.org/memorialday or the Cranberry Township Facebook page.
