Police: Man seriously hurt as Jeep rolls over embankment
A suspected drunken driver was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital with serious injuries after a weekend crash in Fairvew Township, state police said.
The 47-year-old Bruin man, whose name was not immediately released, was traveling south on Route 268 near Karns City High School about 2:15 p.m. Saturday when his Jeep Liberty went off the road and over an embankment, said Trooper Noah Sims.
The vehicle traveled back onto the road headed south and crossed the solid double yellow line on Route 268 into opposing traffic. The driver overcompensated, police said, and crossed back into the right-hand lane,
Police said the Jeep traveled off the right shoulder and struck a utility pole, before spinning into a tree. The vehicle ended up facing south on the west side of the road.
A Karns City Regional Ambulance crew was first on scene and found the man, who was conscious. Police said they also found empty and full beer cans throughout the vehicle.
He was taken by ambulance to the high school, where a medical helicopter landed and flew him to an unspecified hospital. The extent of his injuries and his condition was not immediately known.
Police said they suspected the man was driving under the influence of alcohol. Charges are pending, police said.
The Jeep had to be towed. The Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
