Signs live everywhere; reminders, we miss you.
A penny on the floor of the closet left there always to stay.
Packets of Rosemary kept in a drawer;
The symbol of remembrance that love lives forever.
Those long ago gifts; a green satin ribbon on a safety pin;
Green glass in the same shape hanging in a window,
And green wristbands worn bare by the years.
The Kwanzaa cherry tree
decked with green twinkling lights;
Your Peace Lilly with three buds waiting to bloom.
A bright red cardinal winging from the tree outside our window;
And your grave stone, gently cleaned and polished with wax.
On the radio, music and songs, ‘The Gambler’,
That catch at the heart and bring a smile.
The blue rabbit cradled in my hands
Like the one you hold in your arms.
Your picture slipping from the bedroom mirror;
Needing a little new tape.
Fifteen years or a lifetime, we will seek the signs
That bring the memories held in our hearts forever.
Always loved
