Police: Man tired of putting money into truck torches it
A man is accused of deliberately setting his pickup truck on fire earlier this year in Slippery Rock.
The suspect, Justin R. Frazier, 28, of Grove City, told investigators that he was “tired of putting money into” the 2008 Chevrolet Colorado, according to state police.
After allegedly torching his truck in February, he reported it stolen, police said.
On Tuesday, police charged Frazier with arson, a felony, and false reports to law enforcement authorities and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors.
The investigation began after a passing motorist called 911 about 12:30 a.m. Feb. 23 to report a vehicle fire on the 300 block of Grove City Road. Slippery Rock police and volunteer firefighters were dispatched and found the burned truck at Minteq International.
The vehicle was subsequently towed away.
Just before 10 a.m., investigators said, Frazier reported his truck stolen from Mercer County. Trooper Dane Morningstar of the Mercer station interviewed the defendant at his workplace.
Frazier eventually admitted to parking his pickup at the business, “lighting a rag and throwing it into the truck,” according to Morningstar's affidavit, allegedly because he was fed up with the cost of repairing the vehicle.
The trooper noted that the pickup sustained fire damage to the inside and outside, and the truck appeared to be a complete loss.
Frazier's preliminary arraignment was not immediately scheduled. He declined to comment about the charges Thursday.
