Another teen sought after escape Summit Township reform school
A student at Summit Academy made an unconventional and risky escape early Tuesday morning in the latest getaway from the reform school in Summit Township, authorities said
The student, a 17-year-old boy, according to state police, tied bed sheets together and climbed out a third-floor window at the facility on Herman Road.
Troopers were notified of the escape about 1:10 a.m. Police helped school staff search for the missing student, but to no avail.
Police also are looking for another Summit Academy student who fled the school with two other students Friday night.
Following that weekend escape, police said, the still missing 17-year-old boy from Latrobe, Westmoreland County, and the others, 18-year-old Tyler M. Stewart of Carnegie, Allegheny County and a 16-year-old boy from New Stanton, Westmoreland County, stole a cargo van.
The van was taken from Winfield Township, investigators said.
Police were notified shortly before 10 p.m., and they joined school staff in searching for the trio.
The 16-year-old returned to the school Saturday, accompanied by his grandmother, who is his guardian. The boy told police that Stewart drove the van to Greenville, Mercer County, and dropped him off.
He also recounted that Stewart drove to Carnegie. State police contacted police in Carnegie, who arrested the defendant.
Stewart, who is being held in the Butler County Prison, is charged with felony counts of theft, receiving stolen property and escape.
The 17-year-old's whereabouts was not known, police said.
Summit Academy is a private, residential school for court adjudicated delinquent and dependent boys and young men ages 14 to 19.
